More info and Elise's comments on our guest wines...

Domaine Treloar Le Rescape Carignan
IGP Côtes Catalanes red
Wine based on the old Carignan vines, yield 18 hl / ha, 2000 btls
13% alc. Carbonic maceration on 50%, traditional fermentation on 50%. Aged in French oak barrels of 3-5 wines for 6 months.
Delicate aroma of violet, cherry and raspberry. On the palate, especially fresh with good acidity. The tannins are well melted and very fine.
17/20 Jancis Robinson, RVF

Elise's notes: This one is my favourite, and so interesting from a winemaker's point of view, using 50% Carbonic Maceration, most famously used in Beaujolais. This is where whole bunches of grapes are blanketed with CO2 in the tank so the fermentation occurs anaerobically inside the skins, giving raspberry, cherry and in some instances bubble gum flavours. This example is divine, it developed over the hours we were drinking it, and became a sumptuous wonder of morello cherry! mmmm I want more even writing this!

Domaine Treloar Motus
PDO Côtes du Roussillon red
(Mourvèdre 80%, Syrah 10%, Grenache 10%)
26 hl / ha, 3500 btls, 14% alc, Aging in barrels 12 months, 25% new.
Rich and complex. Roasted coffee and ripe fruit on the nose. Concentrated but with a nice balance. Notes of chocolate and leather. To drink with a duck breast in sauce or a good Fourme d'Ambert. It can be kept for 10 years in the cellar.
17.5 / 20 Jancis Robinson, Guide Hachette *, Revue du Vin de France

Elise's notes: This wine is gorgeous, so rich and full but not overbearing. Majority Mourvedre grapes, a notoriously difficult grape to make wine with as it can oxidise and produce farmyardy flavours. Not this one! Perfect balance.

Domaine Treloar Three Peaks 2017

PDO Côtes du Roussillon red

(50% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre, 20% Grenache noir)

Alcohol 13.5%, Residual sugar 1.4g, pH 3.6, AT 3.5 Aged in oak barrels for 12 months.

Style: Heady nose, evoking peony, fresh fruit (strawberry, blackcurrant, redcurrant), fine woody background. Full mouth, very tender velvety, aromatic purity of fruit, flowers and wood.

Drink between 1 - 10 years

Guide Hachette **, Jancis Robinson 17.5, Parker 91

Elise's comment - a beautifully fresh red wine, we really enjoyed this one with our evening meal. The alcohol is reasonable for a southern French wine, and this is reflected in the lightness and freshness of the fruit flavours. The floral notes of the syrah are divine!
